What our Arctic travellers say

Sweden Highlights

When Is The Best Time To Visit Sweden?

The best time to visit Sweden depends on what you want from your trip. For Sweden holidays, October to March is perfect for Northern Lights tours and magical stays at the ICEHOTEL. If you’d rather see Sweden’s brighter side, June to August brings the Midnight Sun, mild weather and endless days for hiking and island hopping. For a balance of snow and milder days, consider late March or early April, ideal for catching the Aurora with clearer skies.

What Is The Climate Like In Sweden?

If spotting the Northern Lights is top of your list, the best time for your Sweden holiday is during the cooler months, from autumn through spring. During these months, you can expect average temperatures between -6°C and -20°C, sometimes dipping even lower overnight.

As spring arrives, daylight stretches longer and temperatures rise a little, you’ll see ranges from -10°C to 10°C in rural Sweden and around 5°C to 16°C in Stockholm. If you’re planning a romantic break to see the Arctic Midnight Sun, summer is ideal too, with long, light days and temperatures climbing up to 20°C to 23°C for a fresh, unforgettable Sweden adventure holiday.

Where To Go In Sweden

Every holiday to Sweden has its own highlights – from stylish city life to untouched Arctic wilderness:

  • Lulea: A coastal gem for snowshoeing, frozen sea tours and cosy cabins.
  • Brandon Lodge: Secluded luxury in Lapland, great for wildlife spotting and Aurora viewing.
  • Lapland Guesthouse: Authentic Swedish charm deep in the wilderness.
How To Get Around In Sweden

To get around, Sweden’s modern transport network makes it easy to explore by train, plane or ferry. Cities like Stockholm are best seen by foot or bike, while the far north calls for flights or scenic train rides. To add a real adventure twist to your Sweden holiday package, try husky sledding, snowmobiling, horse riding or skiing through Lapland’s untouched forests. Many resorts also offer bike, kayak and snowshoe hire for guests who want to roam freely.
