What our Arctic travellers say

Norway Highlights

When Is The Best Time To Visit Norway?

The best time to visit Norway is dependent on what you would like to experience on your trip. For Northern Lights enthusiasts, the months of September to March are the best times to visit Northern Norway for a good chance to see the sky light up in hues of green, pink, yellow, purple, and blue. Depending on the months you visit Norway, the sun might not ride at all. In Tromso, the sun doesn’t get above the horizon at all in December but by late March its up at 5:00 until 8:00.

As the ‘Land of the Midnight Sun’, Norway is the best place to witness this otherworldly phenomenon, especially between the months of April and August.

What Is The Climate Like In Norway?

The climate in Norway varies depending on the area of Norway that you are in – usually Northern Norway faces the coldest winters in the country with some regions reaching -40°C, but the temperature usually falls to around -14°C in the winter and 4°C to 6°C in the summer inland. Along the coast, however, you can expect temperatures at around 0°C and an average temperature of 10°C across the whole of Northern Norway.

Where To Go In Norway?

Although you may find the capital city, Oslo, a central hub for tourists, to truly experience an Arctic adventure, Northern Norway is the place to go.

Tromsø

Tromsø is a destination you do not want to miss when it comes to visiting Northern Norway. From viewing the Northern Lights in an Tromsø ice dome to spectacular fjords, Tromsø is where you should be if you want to watch the Aurora Borealis soar across the sky. As it is a Northern Norway city, it would be best to prepare yourself for the cold temperatures, especially if you plan on visiting during the winter. View all of our holidays to Tromsø!

Svalbard

Did you know that Norway, specifically the archipelago of Svalbard, is home to more than 250 polar bears? If observing polar bears is of interest to you, then you will definitely enjoy visiting Svalbard on our polar bear tour and its remarkable wilderness, accompanying possible polar bear sightings. View our Svalbard holiday package for your next adventure!

How To Get Around In Norway?

Public transport links in Norway are great for travelling around the country. Norway’s transportation network includes buses, trains, and ferries that are efficient in getting you from one place to another. However, if you are planning to reach Northern Norway from mainland Norway or vice versa, for example, it would be better to catch a direct flight.
