Our Disko bay, Greenland adventure allows you to experience a country unspoiled by tourism. Experience a world of towering icebergs – too big to explain and where pictures will never do them justice. See pods of whales dance by your boat in Disko Bay and possibly even see seals pop up for a breath. There are no roads between towns (and only 40 miles of paved roads in the whole country) so connections are made by plane or boat. If you enjoy nature, wide open spaces and off the beaten tracks, this is definitely one for your bucket list.
Greenland holidays feature on many bucket lists but few people venture to this beautiful country. We absolutely consider this Greenland Disko Bay adventure the trip of a lifetime. Like all of our packages, it has been created by our travel specialists and Charlotte (pictured) has actually visited all of the locations on the tour, so you can be assured that you’re getting a tried and tested experience.
We recommend a good level of fitness to participate in this package. Owing to their challenging and remote nature Greenland holidays unfortunately tend not to be suitable for individuals with mobility issues or disabilities. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Some information about Greenland:
The first people to set foot in Greenland arrived around 4-5000 years ago from the North American continent via Canada when the sea froze in the narrow strait at Thule in northern Greenland. No less than six different Inuit cultures have immigrated in several waves. Greenland’s population today is descended from the last immigration, the Thule culture, which arrived in around the 9th century AD. One of the things people who travel to Greenland want to see, alongside the Northern lights, are the fantastic Icebergs.
Some information about Icebergs:
Icebergs consist of heavily compacted snow that fell on the Greenlandic ice cap several thousand years ago – in some cases more than 15,000 years ago. The ice cap is in a constant state of change and movement, and every year it produces thousands of icebergs that are primarily formed in the sea from glaciers in the central and north-western region of Greenland and on Greenland’s east coast. They are present throughout Greenland’s waters, but the areas around Ilulissat and Uummannaq are particularly well-known as the source of many large icebergs that break off the glaciers in the deep fjords. Icebergs are found in countless different shapes and sizes – it is not uncommon to see icebergs that contain beautiful openings that form beautiful passages to sail through.

Greenland is an adventure regardless of the season, but depending on the activities and sights you would like to see, the best time to visit Greenland differs.
The peak months that are recommended as the best time to visit would be between May and September, during the summer when temperatures are at their highest. Ice and snow tend to melt during this time, allowing easy access to fjords, iceberg-filled bays, and mountains for hiking opportunities.
The days are long, and you may find that the dark does not come, even 24 hours later – in this case, do not forget to watch the midnight sun as it rises and sets. The summer months are perfect for sightseeing the local wildlife like the musk oxen and flora on the tundra, and to watch whales as they soar above the Greenlandic waters.
However, if you are particularly interested in seeing the Northern Lights, the autumn to spring months in Greenland are ideal as the skies begin to darken considerably during this period. Do not overlook these seasons for travelling to Greenland, as there is still plenty to do, with even fewer tourists around.
Greenland is located in the polar climate zone, meaning its climate is arctic to subarctic. The summer months are warmer, with temperatures rising to 20°C and higher, especially in July in the southern areas of the country. The coldest seasons, however, are usually from winter to spring, with average temperatures typically not exceeding 6°C.
In spite of this, it is worth noting that the level of moisture in the air in Greenland is low, meaning the weather may not be as cold as expected, so the cold climate is not something to be afraid of. The low humidity also means that you may be able to see further than usual, which can be useful for hikes and sightseeing.
Greenland is becoming an attractive tourist destination with a range of tourist attractions and activities that make it a unique and unforgettable place to visit.
Ilulissat is located in western Greenland, with a small population of less than 6,000. The nearby Illulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an impressive glacier with large icebergs in Disko Bay. It is a picturesque scene that can be explored via kayak or hiking. Another glacier close to Ilulissat is the Eqip Sermia, with boat tours taking off from Ilulissat towards the glacier. Tourist spots within the city include the Ilulissat Art Museum for art lovers, and the popular Church of Zion.
For those who would like a journey into Greenlandic history and culture, the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, is the place to be. It is home to a range of museums, from the Greenland National Museum to the Katuaq Cultural Centre. Located in Nuuk is the historic Hans Egede House, the oldest surviving structure besides Viking settlement ruins, the latter of which can also be found in Nuuk.
On the east coast of the country lies Tasiilaq, a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and glaciers. At this remote town, you can explore the true Greenlandic environment by hiking its rugged mountains, sailing, dog sledding, and iceberg diving alongside the majestic fjord waters.
Greenland spans over 2.166 million km², the biggest island on Earth. It can be difficult to get around the country as there are no trains or roads between the settlements. Within the settlements themselves, there are buses and even taxis, but if you are wanting to get from one town to another, you will need to organise a plane, dog sledding, or boat, so it is the perfect adventure for tourists.
