Greenland is a country filled with millennia of history, with an aura unlike any other. Despite its name, Greenland is mostly covered by snow and ice. It is the world’s largest island, an Arctic nation rich in layers of culture and natural beauty.
For an adventure of a lifetime, Greenland is hard to beat. On the world’s largest island (where around 80% is ice-covered), picture sapphire skies, sculpted mountains, mirror-calm fjords and remarkable wildlife. Nowhere else feels quite like it.
Our Greenland holiday packages turn that wild beauty into a luxury escape. Base in Ilulissat (UNESCO Icefjord, Disko Bay icebergs), Kangerlussuaq (most accessible Ice Sheet) or Nuuk (fjords and culture). With no roads between towns, you’ll fly or sail – a thrilling part of the journey. Go May–September for Midnight Sun hikes and iceberg cruises, or September–April for aurora and snow adventures. Choose small-ship expeditions, small-group tours or private, guided itineraries tailored to you. With Arctic Direct, your Greenland holiday will be one to remember.
As we journey north from Nuuk, the cold blue waters of western Greenland unfold before us. You'll be surrounded by breath-taking scenery, from towering icy mountains and deep fjords to awe-inspiring glaciers. Approaching Disko Bay, you'll marvel at the massive icebergs and vast expanses of untouched wilderness. The highlight of the trip is the Ilulissat Icefjord, a natural wonder of stunning beauty.
Experience a unique fusion of modernity and tradition as we explore communities on the fringes of a frozen world, delving into the rich history and culture of Kalaallit Nunaat. Accompanied by our expert Expedition Team, enjoy captivating lectures, small boat cruises, and nature walks. The flexible nature of the expedition allows us to seek out the most exceptional spots for wildlife encounters and landings.

Our Disko bay, Greenland adventure allows you to experience a country unspoiled by tourism. Experience a world of towering icebergs – too big to explain and where pictures will never do them justice. See pods of whales dance by your boat in Disko Bay and possibly even see seals pop up for a breath. There are no roads between towns (and only 40 miles of paved roads in the whole country) so connections are made by plane or boat. If you enjoy nature, wide open spaces and off the beaten tracks, this is definitely one for your bucket list.
Greenland holidays feature on many bucket lists but few people venture to this beautiful country. We absolutely consider this Greenland Disko Bay adventure the trip of a lifetime. Like all of our packages, it has been created by our travel specialists and Charlotte (pictured) has actually visited all of the locations on the tour, so you can be assured that you’re getting a tried and tested experience.
We recommend a good level of fitness to participate in this package. Owing to their challenging and remote nature Greenland holidays unfortunately tend not to be suitable for individuals with mobility issues or disabilities. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Imagine unspoilt waters with great visibility, a constantly changing scenery of icebergs that nobody has seen before in that form, inlets that have never been dived before, not seeing another dive group for an entire week. You could be dreaming of Greenland! Cozy guesthouse included and all meals in Greenland and an excellent opportunity to see the Northern Lights.
Some information about Greenland:
The first people to set foot in Greenland arrived around 4-5000 years ago from the North American continent via Canada when the sea froze in the narrow strait at Thule in northern Greenland. No less than six different Inuit cultures have immigrated in several waves. Greenland’s population today is descended from the last immigration, the Thule culture, which arrived in around the 9th century AD. One of the things people who travel to Greenland want to see, alongside the Northern lights, are the fantastic Icebergs.
Some information about Icebergs:
Icebergs consist of heavily compacted snow that fell on the Greenlandic ice cap several thousand years ago – in some cases more than 15,000 years ago. The ice cap is in a constant state of change and movement, and every year it produces thousands of icebergs that are primarily formed in the sea from glaciers in the central and north-western region of Greenland and on Greenland’s east coast. They are present throughout Greenland’s waters, but the areas around Ilulissat and Uummannaq are particularly well-known as the source of many large icebergs that break off the glaciers in the deep fjords. Icebergs are found in countless different shapes and sizes – it is not uncommon to see icebergs that contain beautiful openings that form beautiful passages to sail through.

The best time to visit Greenland is May to September for mild weather, open fjords and the Midnight Sun – ideal for hiking, boating and whale watching on Greenland holidays. Ice and snow recede, giving easier access to iceberg-filled bays and tundra alive with flora and musk oxen.
Autumn and late winter often bring fewer visitors and crystal-clear light. Aurora hunters and snow-based adventurers, such as those who enjoy snowshoeing, will find the perfect conditions for Greenland winter holidays.
If you’re planning a holiday to Greenland, choose your season by activity: summer for long days on the water, and winter for the Northern Lights and a deep Arctic atmosphere. Our tailored Greenland holiday packages align flights, guides and lodges around your priorities, ensuring your package holidays to Greenland maximise time in the places and conditions you came to see.
Greenland spans the Arctic to sub-Arctic zones. Summers in the south can reach 20 °C and higher in July; coastal areas stay cool and crisp. Winters are cold with frequent sub-zero temperatures, but low humidity often makes the air feel clearer and visibility longer, excellent for photography and iceberg viewing. Pack layered thermals, insulated outerwear, windproof gloves and sturdy boots; we’ll provide destination-specific kit lists.
Planning holidays to Greenland? These hubs make standout bases for Greenland holiday packages, with easy links to fjords, glaciers and culture. Our package holidays to Greenland pair each destination with guided activities and seamless logistics.
Ilulissat
Western Greenland’s showpiece, Ilulissat sits beside the Ilulissat Icefjord (UNESCO) and iceberg-studded Disko Bay. Kayak past cathedral-high ice, hike marked trails with fjord lookouts, or boat to the calving face of Eqip Sermia. In town, visit the Ilulissat Art Museum and the Church of Zion. Ideal for Greenland holidays for summer cruising, photography and, in winter, Northern Lights trips.
Nuuk
Greenland’s capital combines fjords, cuisine and contemporary Inuit culture – perfect for culture-led Greenland holiday packages. Explore the Greenland National Museum, Katuaq Cultural Centre, and historic Hans Egede House; add boat trips into the Nuuk Fjord for whales and coastal scenery. A great twin-centre with Ilulissat on year-round holidays to Greenland.
Tasiilaq
On the wild east coast, Tasiilaq delivers mountains, glaciers and a true frontier feel, ideal for adventurous package holidays to Greenland. Hike ridge trails above ice-filled fjords, sail among bergs, try ice/iceberg diving with specialists. With fewer visitors, it’s a favourite for immersive Greenland winter holidays and aurora chasing.
Covering 2.166 million km², the world’s largest island has no trains and no roads between towns, so travel on holidays to Greenland is by domestic flight or seasonal boat. In winter, occasional snowmobile trips add true Arctic flavour – perfect for Greenland winter holidays. Within settlements, you’ll find buses and taxis.
Our Greenland holiday packages stitch together flights, boats and transfers so remote logistics feel easy. Whether you choose small-group touring or private guiding, we’ll route your package holidays to Greenland via Copenhagen or Reykjavík and coordinate inter-town connections, so your Greenland holidays are all adventure, no stress.
