Package Itinerary

Here’s the type of Nellim itinerary you can expect based on a 3 night trip:

Day 1: Welcome to Nellim
  • Flights from Heathrow or Manchester via Helsinki (Limited Gatwick flights also available – ask for other airports)
  • Meet and greet airport pick up and transfer to Nellim Wilderness Hotel (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Chance to orientate the resort and talk through your itinerary before dinner.
  • Depending on flight arrival you will receive your thermal clothing rental either on arrival or the next morning.
  • 1 hour Aurora Workshop
  • Night in Wilderness room of rustic traditional Lapland style – Aurora alarm to wake you if the Northern Lights come out whilst you are sleeping.
Day 2: Snowmobiling & Aurora Camp
  • Breakfast
  • Snowmobile safari – Snowmobiling is big fun. There is Europe’s last wilderness with plenty of tracks and beautiful scenery in all direction. After a brief snowmobiling lesson and safety instructions, we head off on our snowmobiling adventure. Along the way we stop to enjoy lunch by the open fire and warm drinks to keep us warm. Your guide can point out any wildlife and animal tracks along the way.
  • Evening meal
  • Evening Aurora Camp – This evening we hunt the Aurora on Lake Inari. Snuggle down in the snowmobile sledge surrounded by blankets and furs and enjoy the ride pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. We can gaze through the darkness and watch the northern sky all the way to the base camp. At camp a fire is lit for warmth and we enjoy stories of the north whilst keeping one eye out to see the magical aurora. Lake Inari is a perfect place for aurora viewing since there is no light pollution and the sky is a blank canvas for millions of starts and the Northern Lights. If we are lucky, you might get to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.
  • Night in Wilderness room of rustic traditional Lapland style – Aurora alarm to wake you if the Northern Lights come out whilst you are sleeping.
Day 3: Husky Safari, Aurora Snowshoeing, & Aurora Cabin
  • Breakfast
  • Husky Safari – An absolute ‘must do’ when in Lapland! You will be taught how to handle the sled with brief instruction before you head out for the husky safari. It takes just a little effort and makes the journey much more rewarding. Remember to hold on tight! Safaris are based on two people sharing a sled unless otherwise stated and there is opportunity to swap driver along the way. We travel the trail by Lake Inari – sacred to the Sami people and a wonderful, unspoilt area with few tourists. The dogs’ excitement is infectious as they bark and strain before we set off but once we start moving they fall silent on the trail and you will realize that this is the only way to see Lapland. When we get back we get chance to thank our dogs and take a husky selfie to capture the memories.
  • Aurora Snowshoeing – Snowshoeing is the most peaceful and traditional way to travel in the Arctic winter. We strap on snow shoes and enjoy a slower pace through the forests where we can hear nocturnal animals – and sometimes the absolute silence of the winter forest. We travel to a camp for a warm drink where we can stop and wait to see if we are lucky with the Northern Lights.
  • Night in Aurora Cabin. Sleep in a small cabin with a large glass window over the bed – if the northern Lights come out it is the best place to be!
Day 4: Time to Go Home
  • Departure
  • Breakfast and airport transfer.
  • Return flights

It is also possible to upgrade and spend all 3 nights in the Aurora Cabin- ask us for options.

Ask about Log cabins (sleep 2-4 or 4-8) & honeymoon suites for a special occasion.
