We offer a variety of Igloo Hotels for you to stay in and experience the Northern Lights from the comfort of your own bed. We’ve compiled a list of our favourites:
1. Glass Igloos Kakslauttanen, Finland
This is the original glass igloo hotel resort and owing to it’s success across social media, is the most popular igloo holiday resort in the world. We’re the leading agent to this resort and send 1000’s of people there each and every year.
There are two different types of Igloo at Kakslauttanen, these are small igloos which sleep 2 people and the large igloos which sleep 4 people. Build wise they are fairly similar except the large igloo, in addition to the toilet, also has shower facilities. The glass igloos are comfortable and warm though we tend, owing to their size, to only recommend you stay in an Igloo for 1 night.
If you wanted to upgrade to something a little more luxurious then you need to check out the Kelo Glass Igloo package in Kakslauttanen – these are a combination of cabin and igloo, they can sleep up to 6 people (2x in igloo room, 1x double bed, 1x bunk bed both in main cabin)
Kakslauttanen is the Glass Igloo resort which most people have heard of. The picture below shows the giant Luxury Family Kelo glass igloo Cabin which can sleep up to 12 people and is ideal for large families or small groups.
2. The Nellim Aurora Bubble Hotel In Finland
Built in a slightly different style to the Igloos at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, the igloos are more bubble shaped – hence their name Aurora Bubbles. Combining both a small cabin and aurora bubble
In the aurora cabin part, there is a small toilet and hand basin and in the bubble there is a bed area. The purpose of the accommodation is to give you a comfortable place to watch the Northern Lights from rather than to spend any substantial length of time in. As part of the packages we offer to this resort we also include 2 nights in traditional style wilderness rooms.
It is also possible, in a different part of this resort, to stay in more traditional style Glass Kota Igloos (pictured below) these are slightly more spacious but again, a slightly different design externally to the igloo shape – though they serve the same purpose, to keep you warm whilst you hopefully watch the Northern Lights.
3. Arctic Snow Hotel and Glass Igloos, Finland
This is the only resort which combines an Ice Hotel stay and Glass Igloo stay. Styled in the more traditional igloo format there are both small and large glass igloos. The small igloos sleep 2 people and the larger can sleep up to 5 (bit of a squeeze but possible). We would tend to recommend 4 people maximum. As the igloos here are slightly larger than those at Kakslauttanen, it is more comfortable to stay in them for more then 1 night so, what we tend to offer at this resort is 1 night in the Snow Hotel and 2 Nights in the Glass igloo accommodation. This really does five you the best of both worlds and, has the added advantage that by staying another night in the igloo you are doubling your chances of seeing the Aurora from the comfort of your bed.
The igloos and Snow Hotel are within a short walk from one another and restaurant and sauna facilities are also within a 2 min walk.
4. Apukka Ice Cabins and Glass Igloo Resort, Finland
This resort is one of the newest on our glass igloo resort offering – here you can stay in a glass igloo kota, like at the Aurora Bubble Resort and also spend a night in a hand crafted Ice cabin. Again the Kota Igloo is slightly larger so a little more comfortable and who wouldn’t want to stay in an ice cabin?!
5. Snow Igloos, Sweden & Finland
Whilst not a glass igloo – snow igloos deserve an honorable mention on the Igloo holiday list as without a snow igloo it’s unlikely we’d have the glass igloos.
We have a selection of resorts which offer the opportunity to stay in a snow igloo although their being built very much depends on snowfall, temperatures and so on – safety comes first! With snow igloos, like the Northern Lights we can never guarantee them as there are many factors that go into them being built. If you would like to stay in a snow igloo or perhaps you would even like the opportunity to build your own, please speak to our advisers who will give you the best available options to suit your requirements.
