This week the earth in Iceland has been rumbling and multiple earthquakes have been detected across Iceland including last Thursday 27th July when an earthquake swarm was detected by the Icelandic Met Office with over 500 earthquakes.

A glacial flood in the Múlakvísl river occurred and travellers were advised to avoid going close to the river, where the water has reportedly gone dark, smells of sulphur, and is producing potentially dangerous gas pollution. Travellers should not approach the water, and should be mindful of the situation. The nature and wilderness of Iceland should always be respected and we urge anyone travelling to Iceland to follow advice issued by local authorities regarding conditions locally.

Following tremors at Katla in South Iceland and a glacial river flood in Múlakvísl, the Icelandic Met Office briefly raised the status of the famous volcano on its ‘Aviation Colour Code Map for Icelandic Volcanic Systems’ from green to yellow however this was moved back to green after two days which means that volcanic activity has subsided and that there are no signs of an impending eruption.
