If you’ve ever dreamed about staying in the Ice Hotel but wondered if you’ll be too cold? Then this guide is for you.

How many nights should you stay? What clothing do you need to pack? We answer the most common questions about staying in an Ice Hotel.

Each year, after the summer melt, the Hotel is redesigned by artists from around the world. With such unique ideas each year, it’s amazing to see how the artists’ works can be represented through such skill and technique.

Staying the sub-zero ice hotelin the Ice Hotel is something everyone should try. We understand that sleeping in sub-zero temperatures can be daunting. That’s why we have created a guide that ensures you are warm and comfortable throughout your stay.

How cold is the Ice Hotel?

The temperature in the Ice Hotel usually sits around -1 to -7 degrees. If that sounds too cold for you, not to worry, you will be given thermal winter clothing, such as a thermal suit, snow boots, and a fleece lined hat. The sleeping bags provided for you are designed to keep you warm in temperatures as low as -25 degrees. The staff will give you a brief and routine to follow as you must get into a thin liner before getting into the sleeping bag. You may feel cold for a few minutes then your body heat will get trapped inside the sleeping bag which makes you feel all snug and toasty!

How many nights should you stay in the Ice Hotel?

As it can be very cold, we always suggest that one night in the Ice Hotel is enough. We understand that staying one night in the Arctic is not long. So, we recommend booking a few nights in other forms of accommodation such as, a glass Aurora Hut, chalet, or a Tree Hotel. That way you can enjoy everything the Arctic has to offer!

Will I see the Northern Lights?

Ice Hotel

Although we can’t predict you’ll see the Northern Lights, most people who have stayed in the Ice Hotel during the winter season have had a high success rate. Most Ice Hotels are located near the Arctic Circle, usually somewhere remote. With little light pollution, the chances of you seeing the Northern Lights are very high.

What do I need to pack?

Temperatures outside of the hotel can drop to as low as -40 degrees so dressing appropriately for these conditions is essential. Although the hotels can provide you with the essentials like specialist sleeping bags, thermal suits, and snow boots, its useful to bring a few extra belongings to make sure you’re comfortable and warm.

Smaller, warm accessories is always a good idea. So, think thick socks, thermal gloves, beanie hats etc.

Layering is a good way to keep warm as the air trapped between the layers helps keep you warm. Long sleeved t shirts, sock liners and fleeces are good base layers to wear under the suits.

Walking shoes/ boots are very practical for activities and travelling around. You’ll probably end up wearing the boots provided but having that extra pair on hand is always handy.
