Abisko has been called one of the best places in the World to see the Northern Lights.
As the aurora is on the bucket list of so many people and if the conditions are right, there are lots of great locations across all of these countries where you can see them.
We’re often asked about seeing the Northern Lights in Abisko and if it is a good place to see the aurora.
The town is positioned about 1 hour away from Kiruna airport and around 1hour 30 mins from ICEHOTEL Sweden. Generally a trip to the area isn’t complete without a trip up the ski lift to the sky station.
The area is known for a unique micro-climate, the mountains keep much of the cloud cover away meaning generally good viewing of clear skies. Cloudless skies mean that any aurora is less likely to be obscured and the national park area has minimul light pollution making it an even better opportunity to see aurora. There is also a live cam where you can see what’s happening!
Abisko Sky station is a great placce to see the Northern Lights and our team can compile a fantastic package for you to help you have the best chance to see the aurora, the aurora can be seen from September to the end of March. Ask for the best months.
