If you’re a Game of Thrones fan then you absolutely need to check out this year’s Snow Village Snow Hotel. Rebuilt every year in Finland, using around 20 million kilos of snow and 350 000 kilos of crystal clear natural ice, the amazing SnowVillage is rebuilt every year. Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
Covering an area of about 20 000 square metres, the SnowVillage consists of a Snow Hotel, with snow rooms and suites, Ice Restaurant, Ice Bar and Ice Chapel. This year, the entire hotel is Game Of Thrones themed – with rooms designed by sculptors from Russia, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine. You can find a life sized iron throne with swords, a scary Braavosi Hall of Faces and a white walker with glowing blue eyes.
Even if you’re not a fan of Game of Thrones, the opportunity to spend a night in the Snow Hotel is not only a bucket list arctic experience for many – it’s actually fairly warm and cosy! You’ll spend a night in a thermal sleeping bag that is rated to minus 50. Inside the SnowHotel it will get to around minus 8 degrees.
If you want to stay in a warmer accommodation, there are also a number of warm cabin options which are perfect for couples and small groups. For those who like to ski and have a sense of adventure, there’s excellent access to the skiing and snowmobile tracks. Cabins are located in Lainio.
