Northern Lights Experiences
3 hour Northern Lights walk with dinner
In the evening, just on dusk we will head for a 3 hour nature walk. While walking through the Brändö forests or along the coastal beaches our experienced guide will inform you about the surrounding nature and wildlife and if conditions are right the Northern Lights may be spotted! Along the way there will be a break during which our guests will light a fire and prepare coffee and tea. Dinner will be prepared outdoors by the guide and enjoyed sitting on reindeer furs under the dark sky. This is as close to nature as you can get.
Evening guided Northern Lights boat tour
The view to the north from Brändön has only low islands and the sea of the Bay of Bothnia. This makes for an uninterrupted view of the northern sky and if conditions are right the northern lights. To maximise this experience, we take a short boat tour at dusk out to one of the nearby islands. Here we will make a small fire on the beach, prepare some snacks and drinks and wait, hopefully, for the magical northern lights. A second option includes an extra hour and our guide will cook a fantastic outdoor dinner on the island.
Snowmobiling Activities
Northern Lights snowmobile tour
Embark on a snowmobile adventure through the Arctic night, leaving the lodge and all artificial lights behind. Venturing into complete darkness significantly increases your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights! Experience the mesmerising landscape, illuminated only by the moon, stars, and glistening white snow. It’s the perfect combination of two incredible worlds—chasing the Northern Lights while enjoying the thrill of an exciting snowmobile ride.
2 hour Forest and ice nature tour by snowmobile
A two hour nature focused tour by snowmobile through Luleås snow-covered forests and over its frozen sea and lakes. This guided nature tour takes you to some of our most beautiful places with great views and opportunities to spot wildlife.
4 hour Forest and ice nature tour by snowmobile with lunch
A four hour nature focused tour by snowmobile through Luleås snow-covered forests and over its frozen sea and lakes. This guided nature tour takes you to some of our most beautiful places with great views and opportunities to spot wildlife. This longer 4 hour tour includes one of Brändön Lodges famous outdoor lunches.
Reindeer Activities
Sami Reindeer experience
Starting at Brändön Lodge, you'll meet a local Sami man, Jon-Anders, who will share insights into his culture and way of life. We’ll walk into the reindeer enclosure, where Jon-Anders will explain the "year of the reindeer," the eight seasons, and how they interact with the reindeer and nature throughout each one. Afterward, we’ll stroll with the reindeer and learn more about the Sami. Upon reaching the tent, we’ll gather around the fire for tea, soaking in the atmosphere and continuing our conversation with Jon-Anders. A delicious lunch will also be served by the fire.
Snowshoeing Activities
3 hour Nordic winter skills on snowshoes with lunch
Experience the winter life of Swedish Lapland by learning how to dress, behave, and embrace nature in the cold Subarctic climate. After changing into warm outdoor clothing, you'll strap on snowshoes for a 3-hour adventure in the nearby forests. Guided by experts, you'll learn to use snowshoes, make a fire in the snow, and prepare tea and coffee over an open flame. Along the way, your guide will share stories of Arctic life and insights about the region's forest, sea, and wildlife. Enjoy a break in a traditional Sami teepee, where you'll prepare a wilderness lunch and relax on reindeer pelts around the fire. Here, it's all about enjoying and appreciating the unique environment of Swedish Lapland.
3 hour Northern Lights snowshoe walk with dinner
Our goal is to venture into the Swedish Lapland forest, explore its incredible nature, and, if lucky, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. On a guided snowshoe walk, you’ll learn about the environment, and if conditions allow, we may spot the aurora. We’ll cover the science behind the Northern Lights, including the different colors, frequency, and tips for photographing them. Along the way, we’ll pause to light a fire in the snow, identify constellations, and track wildlife. Once the fire is burning, we’ll enjoy coffee, tea, and local cake. On the longer 3-hour adventure, the guide will prepare dinner outdoors, and we’ll dine on reindeer furs beneath the dark sky. This is a true immersion in nature.
Ice Fishing
2 hour ice fishing
Being out in nature, learning about the marine environment and our arctic life is the goal of this tour as well as even catching a fish to take back to the lodge for lunch. Your guide will give you an insight into the nature of our frozen sea, the ice conditions that we can find and how to safely navigate in this frozen world. Ice fishing on the frozen sea ice is an important part of our local lifestyle and for generations has been a way for people to supplement their diet. Join us for two hours including a break with a hot beverage and some sweet bread. Our guide brings all necessary equipment and we use our big snowmobile sled to reach the best locations. We drill our holes in the ice and start fishing for “the big one”. A normal catch would be perch or sometimes pike.
Other Activities
2 hour cross country skiing
Join us for a guided introduction to cross-country skiing and explore the pristine, peaceful nature surrounding our lodge. Your guide will teach you various popular skiing techniques, and after ensuring the equipment fits perfectly, we’ll embark on a tour together. Depending on snow conditions, weather, and your skill level, we’ll adjust the route to suit your preferences. Whether it's along snowmobile tracks on the frozen sea or winding trails in the forest, we’ll stop to enjoy a warm beverage and take in the tranquility of the Lapland wilderness. This classic nature activity is perfect for both adults and families, with a recommended age of 7 and up.
1 hour dogsled ride
Dogsledding is an amazing winter activity and at Brändön Lodge we have one hour tours departing from the Lodge on Saturdays and Sundays. After introductions, a safety briefing and information on the journey ahead, you and up to 3 other people will sit on a sled while your guide will mush the husky team and drive them along a forest and lake trail. Along the way you will be able to enjoy the scenery and thrill of the husky team. On stops the guide will inform you about the life of a husky musher in the frozen north, the dogs as well as the fantastic arctic nature all around us.
2 hour ice breaker tour
Icebreakers are an important part of our arctic life keeping the shipping lanes open for ships along the Baltic coast. An Icebreaker adventure can be booked from Brandon or Pine Bay Lodge. We take an approximately one hour drive to Piteå where the icebreaker waits in harbour. You will experience the power of these ships as it breaks the ice and then when it stops you have the opportunity to wear a marine survival suit and take a swim in the frozen sea behind the ship.
