Day 1

Meet and greet with your guide at the airport ahead of drive to our guesthouse in Jokkmokk, the perfect base for excursions into some of the best parts of Lapland.  After dinner, we will meet up with a local photographer who will teach us how to best capture the Northern Lights and succeed with Northern Lights photography. As night falls, we go outside to await the spectacle of the Aurora Borealis, the legendary Northern Lights. Each evening holds an opportunity to witness the phenomenon and as there is virtually no light pollution in the area so If there are no clouds then the chances of seeing the aurora are very high.

Night in Jokkmokk guesthouse.

Day 2

Today we are all going dog sledding with our friends Matti and Stina. They live and train their dogs all year around. We will set off across the frozen landscape for a couple of hours hearing only the breathing of the huskies. This is a true close-to-nature, bucket list experience. After lunch by the camp fire, we will meet up with our good friend Anna. Anna will provide a delicious evening meal in her lávvu (traditional tent). We get the chance to learn more about the Sami culture and the life as a reindeer herder at first hand. We sit on skins on the floor and try some traditional Sami dishes that are prepared over the camp fire.

Night in Jokkmokk guesthouse.

Day 3

Today we will drive through a nearby valley which is known to host some of Europe’s largest Moose, but also substantial amounts of reindeer. This provides a fantastic opportunity to see and photograph these majestic animals. We will have lunch out in the snow whilst admiring the views across lake Saggat. Weather permitting, we will spend the entire afternoon out in the snowy valley before we return to our guesthouse in Jokkmokk for a well-deserved dinner and hot drinks.

Night in Jokkmokk guesthouse.

Day 4 – New Years Eve

We leave our guesthouse in Jokkmokk and travel to visit another good friend of ours. Lennart is Sami and we are very happy that he lets us celebrate New Year’s Eve at his tented camp! This will be a New Years eve to never forget.

Imagine yourself standing in deep snow under the Northern Lights, you’ll be perfectly warm as we include thermal clothing for the duration of your stay. We end this year in the best of ways with a short forest hike in the surroundings. You will have the chance to try either snow shoeing or cross country skiing.

We enjoy a festive New Year’s dinner by the fire place in a small wooden cabin. We take turns to look for the Aurora, and then go out to watch the Northern Lights that will hopefully be dancing in the sky above us. The illuminated tents will provide an ideal foreground for night sky photography. After seeing in the New Year, we will sleep comfortably in the traditional Sami tents, don’t worry though – they have proper beds and a heater, so this is more like glamping and because its in the wilderness the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are high.

Night in traditional Sami Tents

Day 5

We wake up in the traditional tents and gather for breakfast. After saying goodbye to Lennart before we drive to the village of Harads to our lovely little guesthouse where we will spend the night. Harads is just a small village and a few years ago it saw few visitors, until some years ago when Britta decided to build a hotel up in the trees! This Tree Hotel is now world famous for its futuristic architecture and while we have chosen not to spend the night at the Tree Hotel we will have a look around. (We also offer a separate Tree Hotel Ice Hotel Package: More Info Here)

We enjoy our last dinner together at Britta’s place and then go out to watch for Northern Lights in the evening.

Night at Britta’s guesthouse.
