Day 1. Overnight flight from Singapore to Helsinki, change planes a Helsinki to continue to to the North of Finland to Ivalo. Owing to the time differences you’ll arrive Day 2
Day 2. On arrival in Ivalo, a transfer bus will pick you up from the airport and take you to the Igloo resort, the home of the original glass igloos. You’ll have time free to acclimatise and relax. You could maybe hire some skis or snowshoes to explore the local area or check out the art gallery igloo tower on site at the West side of the resort. On the first evening at Kakslauttanen, we’ve arranged an after dinner fire-lighting service for you so you can snuggle up in your cabin. Night 1 of 3 in cosy log cabin – complete with fire and sauna.
Day 3. After breakfast you’ll head out on a 2 hour Husky Safari where you will have the opportunity, following a short safety and instruction briefing, to drive the husky sleds in pairs. It is also possible to upgrade this to a 4 hour tour which includes a light lunch if desired (must be pre-booked). The dogs will be excited and loud before they begin but as soon as they set off you’ll enjoy only the sounds of the sled run. At times you’ll need to help the dogs out – this may mean running up hills for short periods. In the evening you’ll head out in search of the Northern Lights on our Reindeer Aurora Safari – whilst this is a great opportunity to see the Northern Lights we recommend checking outside every night during your stay! The reindeer are quiet, be sure if you’re using a camera you turn the flash off so as not to startle these lovely creatures. Night 2 of 3 in Cabin. If you would like to again have the fire lighting service please speak to reception.
Day 4. Following breakfast, get ready for your 2 hour Snowmobile Safari (driving licence required). You’ll head out on snowmobiles in pairs and there will be the opportunity to switch drivers however remember if you don’t have a driving licence you won’t be able to drive so make sure you remember to pack it! This is a really exhilarating way to experience the Arctic. It is also possible to upgrade this to a 4 hour tour which includes a light lunch if desired (must be pre-booked). If you’ve not yet used the sauna in your cabin then make sure you do this evening. (Check out our Sauna Guide here) Night 3 of 3 in Cabin
Day 5. After breakfast you’ll need to check out of the cabin and check into your Igloo for the night, reception staff will be on hand to advise on the process for this. You’ll then head out with your ski instructor who’ll teach you the basics of Nordic Skiing, you’ll be able to keep hold of the skis for the rest of the day so you can lead your own adventure! Nordic skiing is quite different to the skiing you may have experienced at a local ski centre such as Snow City Singapore- the technique is quite different and it’s on flat rather than slope. Check in to the Igloo is usually around 1400 so we’ve kept the rest of the day free so you’ve got plenty of time to ski or spend in your igloo as you wish. Hopefully this evening the Northern Lights will come out and you’ll be luck enough to see them from the comfort of your bed. Night 1 of 1 in Igloo.
Day 6. Today you’ll leave the world famous igloos at Kakslauttanen and depart for Helsinki. Breakfast, check out and then you will head back to the airport. When you land in Helsinki, you will collect your baggage and make your own way to the Hotel. The Airport is about 30 min from the Centre of Helsinki, there is a train which runs directly into the centre or you can grab a cab. Transfers to/from the city are not included as it is so easy to jump in a cab, grab an Uber or train. The city of Helsinki is very different to Singapore with a far more relaxed pace. Night in Helsinki Hilton hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 7. Departure day. Following a leisurely breakfast you’ll check out and a transfer back to the airport for your journey back to Singapore.
