North Pole Ski
Not everybody’s idea of the perfect holiday is 2 weeks on a sun lounger. If you crave a little adventure and a once in a lifetime experience then how about skiing to the top of the world, to the North Pole?
Not everybody has the physical and mental endurance to be able to be considered for the trip and although technical skill is not a requirement you will have to be able to dedicate time to physical endurance before departure as you could be spending up to 10 days on the ice pulling a 30-40kg sledge. Have you got what it takes?
Polar training program gives a chance to familiarise yourself with equipment and learn and practice extreme cold weather skills in a safe environment over 5 days and culminates with the opportunity to ski into an ice hole (optional) to practice this potentially life saving skill.
- Flights
- Transfers
- 5 night Polar training program (this can be done separately on request)
- Most equipment rental
- Approx 4 nights in Longyearbyen (2 at beginning, 2 at end)
- Approx 10 days on ice skiing from 89degrees (subject to ice flow and progress)
- Phone call from North Pole
- Days are spent skiing with short breaks and camping on the ice in the evenings.

- Arrive in Longyearbyen, shuttle to our first night's lodge. Over a hearty dinner you'll have an opportunity to meet the other members of the Shakedown training and discuss with your guide the upcoming days. After dinner your guide will perform an in depth review of Polar equipment and closely review each participants clothing and equipment.
- After breakfast we'll have a few classes and then it's time to hit the trail! For two days & nights you'll experience what its like to survive (and thrive!) in extremely cold temperatures. We'll cover all sorts of important information (see a sampling of the class list below), and help you gain invaluable experience prior to your expedition. On our final night we'll make our way back to our lodge for hot showers. On most trips, our final night includes the opportunity to ski into a hole cut into the ice. This exercise gives you critical experience in dealing with cold water submerging (an unlikely, but possible occurrence on a North Pole expedition).
- Welcome reception and dinner for those who have previously completed training.
- Final equipment review, warm-up ski in Spitsbergen
- Last chance to get goodies and/or clothing or equipment in town!
- Fly to 89 degrees North latitude, strap on skis and head North!
- Ski North towards the North Pole! Days are spent skiing and taking relatively short breaks, evenings are spent setting up camp, preparing meals and relaxing with fellow expedition team members.
- Arrive at the geographic North Pole! Enjoy a Polar celebration with champagne and plenty of photos. Call home and share the moment with friends or family! Camp in the vicinity of the North Pole.
- Pick up by charter helicopter and fly back to 89 degrees. Board return flight to Longyearbyen. Hot showers and celebratory dinner!
- Breakfast at Longyearbyen lodge. Transport to airport. Flights home!
- Price On Application
- If preferred the training program can be done in January in the US for +£600 pp to cover additional travel costs.
- This allows you chance to be given a personal training program to ensure you are fully prepared for the expedition.
